Leading the Cure: Medical Director of Leukemia at Orlando Health

The Medical Director of Leukemia will provide leadership and oversight for the Leukemia Program at Orlando Health. This role involves strategic planning, program development, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. The Medical Director will work collaboratively with other departments and lead a team of hematologists/oncologists to advance the field of leukemia through clinical excellence, research, and education. Additionally, the Medical Director will be responsible for training and mentoring fellows in hematology/oncology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the Leukemia Program, including strategic planning and program development.
  • Oversee clinical operations, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to best practices and accreditation standards.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that supports clinical excellence, research, and education.
  • Engage in recruitment and retention of top talent in hematology/oncology.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and collaborate with other departments to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Lead and support research initiatives in leukemia.
  • Perform and interpret a variety of diagnostic tests and treatments for leukemia, including bone marrow biopsies, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies.
  • Provide consultations and second opinions on complex leukemia cases.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of diagnostic results to referring physicians and patients.
  • Stay current with advancements in leukemia treatment to continuously improve patient care.
  • Develop and mentor a team of advanced practice providers, clinical and research nurses, and support staff dedicated to the leukemia program.
  • Training and Mentoring Fellows:
    • Participate in a comprehensive fellowship training program in hematology/oncology with a focus on leukemia.
    • Provide hands-on training and supervision to fellows in clinical practice, including diagnostic procedures, patient management, and treatment planning.
    • Conduct regular educational sessions, workshops, and seminars to enhance fellows' knowledge and skills in leukemia care.
    • Mentor fellows in clinical research, guiding them through the process of designing, conducting, and publishing research studies.
    • Evaluate fellows' performance and provide constructive feedback to support their professional growth.
    • Facilitate fellows' participation in multidisciplinary meetings and tumor boards to expose them to collaborative patient care.
    • Encourage fellows to engage in academic pursuits, including presenting at conferences and contributing to peer-reviewed publications.
    • Collaborate with academic institutions to ensure the fellowship program meets educational standards and accreditation requirements.

Qualifications:

  • MD, DO, or MD/PhD
    • American Board of Internal Medicine Certification in Hematology/Oncology.
  • Proven track record of clinical excellence and leadership in leukemia.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to advancing the field of leukemia through research and education.
