Women's Health - Primary Care Opportunity

The Women’s Health Clinic at the Portland VA Medical Center section of Primary Care Service, situated in Portland, Or is seeking a dynamic board certified or board eligible physician for the position of Primary Care Women’s Health.  The patient population ranges from adult to geriatrics. The Incumbent will demonstrate proficiency in practice, planning, and self-direction in goal setting for managing each Women Veterans medical needs.  Candidates should be board-certified in Family Practice or Internal Medicine, with experience and proficiency in women’s health care.

The Women’s health clinic physician will care for a panel of women patients with complex medical and psychosocial needs. They may have the opportunity to work with resident physicians or nurse practitioners and other learners.. You may the opportunity to perform Women’s Health procedures such as IUD insertions/removals, colposcopy and implantable contraceptives.  You will be working with a full complement of support staff including an RN, LPN and medical support assistant as part of your Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). Telephone call duties within the Division of Primary care encompasses 2-3 weeks per year.

Duties: the candidate must display an exceptional degree of competence in providing healthcare to women veterans.  Provide primary medical care and education for acute and chronic medical conditions, as well as gender specific primary care (initial evaluation and treatment of gender specific conditions such as pelvic and abdominal pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding, vaginal infections, urinary incontinence, contraception, STI management, and menopause related concerns) and preventative care.  The candidate will assess, diagnose and develop medical and treatment plans for an assigned panel of female primary care patients. The Primary care physician will consult with other specialties as needed.  Document, order testing and follow up in the computerized medical record in a timely manner.  Provide timely follow-up on results, including completion of view alerts.  Prescribe medications according to the VA approved formulary, and in accordance with Federal and State Law.

Federal Retirement Plan:

The Portland VA Medical Center (PVAMC) is a 303-bed consolidated facility with two main divisions. The medical center serves as the quaternary referral center for Oregon, Southern Washington, and parts of Idaho for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The Portland VAMC is located atop Marquam Hill on 28.5 acres overlooking the city of Portland.
