A Brief Overview

The Integrated Behavioral Health in Primary Care Program, Healthy Mind Healthy Kids (HMHK) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is a specialized program dedicated to promoting mental health and well-being among children and adolescents in the primary care setting. With a multidisciplinary team of experts, the group aims to address the unique mental health needs of young individuals and provide comprehensive and evidence-based care. The primary focus of HMHK is to collaborate with PCPs to identify and treat mental health conditions early on, aiming to improve outcomes and overall quality of life for children. They offer a range of services, including assessments, therapy, medication management, and support for families.

The Medical Director in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences works in collaboration with other CHOP clinical leaders and the CHOP Administration to provide clinical leadership for the inpatient consultation and liaison service, day hospital program or outpatient mental health practice. This position is a part-time FTE; it is expected that the balance of the physician's time will be dedicated to patient care. Qualities and skills required are Proven leadership skills among physicians and administration, strategic aptitude and vision, financial aptitude, influencing skills, and ability to support change and bring forward new ideas.

What you will do

  • Provide leadership for clinical practice:
  • Advise on clinical best practices in the assigned setting in collaboration with other clinical leaders and CHOP Administrative leadership.
  • Collaborate with leadership in medical, surgical, behavioral health, or nursing disciplines to optimize the care model
  • Provide physician leadership for Advanced Practice Nurses (e.g. APN credentials)
  • Recruitment and succession planning for physicians, in collaboration with the Divison Chief
  • Develop performance measures for physicians in quality, productivity, and citizenship
  • Review and approve physician credentials and privileges, in collaboration with the Divison Chief/Psychiatrist-In-Chief
  • Address Legal and/or Risk Management issues as they pertain to physicians, in collaboration with the Divison Chief
  • Support physician professional development (e.g. identifying leadership opportunities within the network such as coordinating educational experiences for students, residents, and fellows in primary care)
  • Advise CHOP Administration of new clinical trends in Behavioral Health from a strategic and network perspective; provide input and thought to DCAPBS strategic direction and planning
  • Development and execution of a care model for the future
  • Foster linkage between primary and specialty care to implement specialty care protocols in the primary care or specialty care setting, including the development of education strategies to support these efforts
  • Develop CHOP philosophy concerning care delivery innovations (e.g. care delivery options).
  • Support the education mission/leadership at CHOP (e.g.: operationalize the needs of clinics for residents so it meet the residency program needs and also can be implemented at the practices); act as the conduit for medical student teaching
  • Provide leadership in conjunction with CHOP Administrative leadership around practice management issues such as:
  • Payer issues in collaboration with Medical Director QPS, MSO, CHOP finance
  • Clinical perspective and impact of financial decisions
  • Collaborate with City/Community/Government entities on pediatric public health issues; keep abreast of grant funding and programmatic opportunities supported by external sources, connect with city on child care and advocacy

Education Qualifications

  •  Doctorate Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine Required
