Job Description

Providence St. Peter Hospital is seeking a part-time Physician Advisor to join a highly dedicated team serving both the Providence St. Peter Hospital and the Providence Centralia Hospital. This is a unique and elevated Physician Advisor role where you will function at a higher level using your extensive PA background to: influence service area length of stay goals, lead by example, act as a change agent to achieve programmatic goals, and demonstrate operational effectiveness within the organization. This is in conjunction with responsibilities such as daily rounds, direct physician interaction, coding and documentation, executive leadership collaboration, strategic support, and more.   • Part-time (0.5 FTE) Physician Advisor role with 0.5 FTE clinical
  • Must have proven experience as a Physician Advisor with a strong background in influencing and driving change
  • Chair the Utilization Management Committee and assumes leadership role in Patient Flow Committees and other relevant committees at the ministry
  • Provide support to Care Management and Utilization Management by: addressing complex patient discharges, assessing appropriateness of inpatient vs observation status for admitted patients, addressing medical necessity both clinically and as documented by physicians in the medical record, assisting appeals or denials for lack of medical necessity or class mismatch, assisting with securing authorizations and conducting peer to peer conversations with payors
  • Provide physician education on clinical documentation, medical necessity, status determinations, and Medicare rules as they relate to reimbursement and patient benefits
  • Utilize data to identify opportunities for process improvements and to trend performance on medical center objectives as they relate to LOS variance, cost per case, controllable write offs, clinical documentation metrics, and/or other care management related goals
  • Promote a culture of high value care, stewardship of resources, and efficient patient flow at the medical center by effectively engaging with physicians and other staff at the medical center
  • Develop strong relationships with hospitalists, medical staff, Case Management, nursing staff, ancillary staff, and Executive Leadership to enhance alignment on key strategic goals of the system and ministry
  • Participate in and lead local ministry SNF and LTACH Collaboratives as applicable and help to facilitate and develop strong sustainable partnerships with leaders of local post-acute facilities
  • A commitment to operational effectiveness and value-based care initiatives
  • Support 2 locations: Providence St. Peter Hospital and Providence Centralia Hospital
  • Role responsibilities are at 0.5 FTE
  • Compensation is between $156,000 and $170,560 per year
  • The compensation amounts listed may include productivity or quality/service incentives, call pay, extra shift incentives, as applicable to the position. In addition, providers may have CME benefits available to them
