Tour of duty: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, no on-call or weekends, Alternative work schedules may be available, to include part-time appointments.

Salary: $320,000 - $380,000 plus much more!

Candidates must: 1) be a US citizen or PRA (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with [38 U.S.C. § 7407(a)]; 2) possess a current, full, unrestricted medical license in any state, 3) board prepared/certified in Family or Internal Medicine and board eligible/certified in Gastroenterology, and 4) Flu vaccination. Preferred experience: Best qualified candidates will be Board Certified in Gastroenterology

The Department of Veteran Affairs Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) is an integrated health care delivery system, offering a comprehensive array of medical, surgical, rehabilitative, mental health and extended care to veterans in Northern California. The health system is comprised of a medical center in Sacramento; a rehabilitation and extended care facility in Martinez; outpatient clinics in Martinez, Fairfield, Vallejo, Stockton, Modesto, Sonora, Sacramento (Mather and McClellan Park), Auburn, Yuba City, Redding, Chico, and Yreka; and dental clinics in Vallejo, Sacramento and Redding.

 

The Sacramento VA Medical Center is a 81-bed, state-of-the-art, inpatient facility offering a full range of comprehensive health care services including medical, surgical, primary and mental health care. The medical center, which is comprised of 25 medical-surgical beds, 30 TCU beds, 10 ICU beds, 16 BHICU, and a four room operating suite, also a cardiac catheterization lab, a gastrointestinal & endoscopy suite, angiography capability and 16,000 square-feet of research laboratory. Offers a wide range of outpatient and diagnostic services, including mammography, MRI, CT, and PET scanning.

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2025, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $23,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $31,000.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
  • Disability Retirement
  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
