Lead Surgical Education in a Rapidly Growing Academic Health System

Piedmont Athens is a 427-bed regional referral center with a growing academic footprint. As part of Piedmont Healthcare, the hospital is launching a new ACGME-accredited General Surgery Residency Program to address regional workforce needs and promote surgical excellence across Northeast Georgia.

Position Overview

As Founding Program Director, you will develop and launch a premier General Surgery Residency Program. You will lead accreditation, faculty recruitment, and curricular design, while maintaining a surgical practice that models clinical and academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• - Develop curriculum and oversee educational programming
• - Recruit faculty and support staff
• - Navigate ACGME accreditation and maintain regulatory compliance
• - Foster scholarly activity and a culture of safety and professionalism
• - Provide clinical teaching in operative and non-operative settings
• - Build community and hospital partnerships for surgical training

Minimum Qualifications

• - MD or DO from an accredited institution
• - Board Certification in General Surgery
• - Unrestricted or eligible Georgia medical license
• - At least three years of GME experience

Preferred Qualifications

• - Experience launching or expanding a surgery program
• - ACGME accreditation leadership experience
• - Track record of mentorship and scholarly activity
