Position Title: Nocturnist – Internal Medicine (Academic Hospitalist)
Schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 7 days on / 7 days off
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and academically oriented Nocturnist to join our Internal Medicine faculty team. This position offers a unique blend of clinical care, resident supervision, and educational responsibilities in an academic hospital setting. The role is structured as 12-hour overnight shifts on a one-week-on, one-week-off schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overnight inpatient medical care for adult patients as part of the hospital medicine team.
- Perform admissions from the Emergency Department and transfers from outside facilities.
- Respond to Rapid Response Team (RRT) calls; no code team or procedural responsibilities required.
- Supervise and staff patient care with internal medicine residents during the night shift.
- Teach and mentor medical students and residents in clinical reasoning, documentation, and bedside care.
- Participate in formal and informal evaluations of learners; contribute to feedback and educational assessments.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe handoffs and continuity of care.
- Collaborate with day teams and hospital leadership to support high-quality inpatient care and education.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree; board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine.
- Eligible for medical licensure in Michigan.
- Strong interest and demonstrated ability in clinical teaching and medical education.
- Prior hospitalist or nocturnist experience preferred but not required.
