The Division Chief will develop a vision and strategic direction for the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery and provide leadership, supervision, and accountability to fulfill the administrative, clinical, educational, and research missions of the DeWitt Daughtry Department of Surgery and UHealth. The Division Chief is directly responsible to the Chair, Department of Surgery, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, for the Division's overall function. The Chief will also serve as the Chief Surgical Officer for the specialty at Jackson Health System. The performance of the Chief shall be evaluated annually by the Chair of the Department of Surgery based on the effectiveness of his/her leadership role and the satisfactory execution of duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote the mission of UHealth in achieving its role in providing medical education, research, and quality patient care
Collaborate with leaders from other Departments to deliver clinical quality delivery across the health systems, including JMH and UM affiliated facilities
Oversee all aspect of clinical activities for the division including monitoring access optimization, surgical volumes, patient experience, patient safety, and compliance
Participate in strategic growth and development plans for the division
Oversee overall productivity for clinical faculty as well as scholarly activities, education, research and community of all faculty members within the division
Strengthens current clinical programs necessary to achieve the department and UHealth System vision and goals
Works with department leadership to create and implement new clinical programs to achieve the department’s vision and goals
Ensures alignment between all units by meeting with the division’s faculty regularly
Work closely with the Chair and SAO to ensure a united vision and shared priorities for the department
Represent the department with internal and external clinical partners
Responsible for developing strong relations with clinical departments
Work with the clinical divisions to understand their unique challenges and identify opportunities within their units
Recruit, mentor and evaluate faculty performance annually
Responsible for FPPE and OPPE credentialing evaluations including presenting faculty files for new appointments and recredentialing division faculty
Oversee and periodically update delineation of privileges at all affiliated facilities
Ensure that the clinical services offered by the Division are of the highest quality, meet community needs, and support the organization
Assume responsibility for developing and maintaining cost-effective resource management activities and strategies for the effective delivery of patient care correlated to clinical quality outcome data, i.e., establishing policies and procedures for quality assessment/improvement programs.
Establish performance criteria, measure performance, and record performance to recommend promotion, tenure, and salary for all division faculty and staff members.
Collaborate with Departmental leadership to increase revenue generation and implement a cost-containment plan
Interpret and help to ensure medical staff compliance with hospital and medical staff bylaws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable regulatory standards.
Serve as an active member of medical staff and hospital committees.
Serve as a liaison to other disciplines to improve care coordination or to resolve concerns.
Perform other functions and duties as may be assigned or requested by the Departmental leadership.
Education Requirements:
Applicants should be strongly committed to patient care and education and interested in basic science and/or clinical research.
Must possess an MD degree
Must be board-certified in general surgery
Completed a colon and rectal fellowship
3 – 5 years of leadership experience preferred
Able to obtain a Florida medical license
