The Duke Department of Pathology seeks a full-time surgical pathologist with experience and interest in pulmonary/thoracic pathology at Duke University Hospital. Duke Pathology is dedicated to delivering exceptional diagnostic services to patients and their physicians.

The Duke Division of Pulmonary/Thoracic Pathology is comprised of five pathologists and is well known for its specialized expertise in occupational lung diseases, pleural disorders, pulmonary and mediastinal neoplasms, as well as transplant pathology. Duke is one of the largest lung transplant centers in North America and sees a robust number of interstitial lung disease cases. Our thoracic surgery colleagues have expertise in mesothelioma, thymic neoplasia, and lung cancer; this is reflected in the types of cases reviewed by the thoracic pathology division. We work closely with thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, radiologists, and oncologists to provide the best patient care.

Opportunity:

  • Diagnostic responsibilities include neoplastic (lung, mediastinum, and pleura), non-neoplastic as well as transplant pathology and biomarker interpretation
  • Join multidisciplinary discussion and collaboration for clinical cases and academic missions to provide exceptional patient care and advance the field of pathology
  • Teaching and resident education as well as collaboration with subspecialty-based pathology faculty
  • A Duke School of Medicine faculty appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level, with academic rank and salary commensurate with experience

Qualifications:

  • Excellent diagnostician with superior communication skills who functions well in a team setting
  • Board certified or board eligible in anatomic pathology (+/- clinical pathology)
  • Experience or fellowship training in pulmonary/thoracic pathology or general surgical pathology with an interest in thoracic pathology; experience in cardiovascular is desired
  • Licensed or eligible for a North Carolina medical license
