The Department of Ophthalmology at The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a dedicated Cornea Specialist to join our team! This faculty position offers a blend of clinical care, teaching, and research opportunities, tailored to the candidate's experience and interests.  The department is fully accredited with four residents per year, and we have faculty full-time in cornea, neuro-ophthalmology, uveitis, vitreoretinal surgery, glaucoma, comprehensive ophthalmology, optometry, oculofacial plastic and orbital surgery and pediatric ophthalmology.   

 Key responsibilities include providing comprehensive clinical care and participating in on-call duties as part of a shared faculty rotation. The role also involves supervising and mentoring medical students and residents in both clinical and surgical settings, contributing to the department's didactic teaching program, and engaging in clinical research. Faculty members are encouraged to share their research findings at national and regional conferences, and those with a strong research focus may be granted protected time to pursue clinical or bench research. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Medical Degree (MD or equivalent) 
  • Board certification or eligibility in Ophthalmology 
  • Completion of a Surgical Cornea Fellowship 
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Kansas 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Academic experience with a strong interest in teaching and research 
  • Proven ability to develop and grow independent research programs, including securing funding from public and private sources
