Seeking Inpatient Psychiatrist Southern CA VA!!

The Loma Linda VA has an opening for an energetic, driven, and compassionate Physician (Inpatient Psychiatry).

 

Facility Details: VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is actively seeking a full-time physician for inpatient psychiatry. Candidates must be residency trained in Psychiatry and be Board Certified/Board Eligible with Board Certification preferred. The successful candidate will work closely with our inpatient care teams with the assessment and treatment of General Psychiatric disorders.

The VA Loma Linda Healthcare system is affiliated with Loma Linda University Health Medical School. Teaching of medical students, residents and fellows is an integral part of the position. VA Loma Linda also has academic affiliations with University of California-Riverside as well. The position provides an outstanding opportunity for individuals committed to an academic career in clinical care, teaching and research and requires excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to team building.

 

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Provides a full range of psychiatric services including assessment and treatment of General Psychiatric disorders
  • Consults with clinical staff on a wide variety of patient care issues
  • Conducts treatment planning and refers to various programs within Mental Health Service and provides return appointments for follow-up
  • Uses validated suicide screening tools to assess safety (danger to self, others, grave disability), and determining need for psychiatric hospitalization. Coordination of patient care with Medical/ED staff and Mental Health Services (including Psychiatric Inpatient Unit)
  • Completes consults in a timely manner, closes clinical encounters, and writes return to clinic orders
  • Returns patient phone calls and provides guidance to patients on treatment options.
  • Represents the Mental Health Service on facility committees
  • Provide training and guidance to General Psychiatry Residents, as well as medical students
  • Serves as a consultant to staff and trainees and assists in their formulation of the appropriate treatment plan regarding their patients
  • Uses VA Video Connect (VVC) for clinical visits when required and supports all staff in completing visits using VVC and other telehealth modalities, as well as responding to messages in My HealtheVet

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2025, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $23,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $31,000.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel

  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
