Position Description:

 

The Department of Pathology at Penn Medicine - Lancaster General Health is seeking a BC/BE anatomic/clinical pathologist with Hematopathology fellowship training for an employed position. You will join a diverse group of 8 pathologists with various subspecialty training, one clinical chemist, and one clinical microbiologist. Training or interest in molecular pathology and coagulation is desirable but not required.

This position includes both hematopathology and general surgical pathology sign out in a centralized and supportive environment. Heme responsibilities are shared with two other hematopathologists and include reading in-house flow cytometry, bone marrow biopsies, lymphomas, peripheral blood, and body fluids with integration of morphology, flow cytometry, molecular data, and cytogenetics into reports. Heme sign out will be alternated with blocks of surgical pathology sign out. No autopsies or grossing required. Frozen section interpretation and light call responsibilities for AP and CP, including plasma exchange, are shared with 8 other pathologists. On boarding with increasing degree of responsibility will be utilized. The position includes a competitive salary, paid time off, CME time and funding, and benefits package.

The Department of Pathology serves Lancaster General Hospital (LGH), Women’s and Babies Hospital, and the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion, all of which are within 3 miles of each other. Pathology offices and sign out are performed centrally at LGH. Approximate yearly workload in anatomic pathology includes 26,600 surgicals, 2600 non-Gyn cytology cases, and 13,000 pap smears. Hematopathology cases include 560+ bone marrow biopsies and over 700 flow cytometry cases, including blood and tissue.

Position Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
  • AP/CP Board certification or eligibility
  • Hematopathology fellowship training required
  • Pennsylvania medical license or eligibility required.
