Job Description

Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health is seeking a compassionate, patient-focused Neonatologist to join our nationally recognized team in Indianapolis. As a leader in neonatal care, Riley Children’s treats more than 3,500 newborns annually across its Level IV and Level III NICUs. Our multidisciplinary team—comprised of board-certified neonatologists, advanced practice providers, and pediatric subspecialists—delivers comprehensive, lifesaving care that often begins prenatally and continues through the NICU stay and beyond. We work closely with maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric surgical and medical subspecialties, and neurodevelopmental follow-up programs to ensure seamless, family-centered care. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic academic environment where your clinical expertise, passion for teaching, and commitment to innovation will make a lasting impact.

This position will serve the neonatal intensive care units at Riley Hospital for Children, home to Indiana’s most advanced and comprehensive neonatal care. The Martha Ann (Rieth) Van Dyke NICU, a 60-bed Level IV unit located in the Simon Family Tower, provides the highest level of care for premature and critically ill newborns. Riley Children’s is consistently ranked among the top neonatology programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and ranks 6th out of 47 U.S. centers in patient complexity, according to the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium. In addition, the Riley Maternity Tower houses a 45-bed Level III NICU, a dedicated labor and delivery unit, and one of the nation’s few obstetrical intensive care units. This integrated facility supports more than 3,800 deliveries annually and offers seamless, co-located care for high-risk mothers and newborns. Together, these units form the largest NICU in Indiana and one of the largest in the country, offering unmatched opportunities for clinical care, teaching, and innovation in maternal and neonatal medicine.

Clinical & Academic Highlights

  • Serve as a primary daytime attending physician in one or more of Riley Hospital’s neonatal intensive care units, including the 60-bed Level IV NICU in the Simon Family Tower and the 45-bed Level III NICU in the Riley Maternity Tower.
  • Participate in the high-risk delivery service and provide consultative care for complex obstetric cases, working closely with maternal-fetal medicine specialists and the obstetrical ICU team.
  • Night call responsibilities are an expected component of the role and include in-house coverage during both weeknights and weekends, supporting continuity of care for critically ill newborns.
  • Be an active member of the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, contributing to the education of medical students, pediatric residents, neonatal fellows, and advanced practice providers (NNPs and PAs).
  • Candidates with experience in quality improvement initiatives or the development of clinical guidelines to reduce variation in care are highly valued.
  • Opportunities for academic engagement and scholarly activity are encouraged. A faculty appointment with the Indiana University School of Medicine is available and will be commensurate with experience and academic interests.
