The Department of Ophthalmology at Loyola University Health System in conjunction with Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital seeks a full-time Ophthalmologist – Retina Specialist.
Candidates must have strong academic interests. Responsibilities include patient care, clinical teaching of medical students and residents, as well as clinical and/or basic research. The appropriate academic appointment will be provided based on the candidate’s qualifications. Candidates must have completed an accredited training program.
Currently, the Loyola Department of Ophthalmology (Maywood and 4 additional satellite offices) and neighboring Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital manage over 65,000 patient visits per year. Currently 35 clinical faculty (17 full-time and 18 part-time) provide strong mentorship and outstanding clinical expertise in all the subspecialties. A dedicated resident education team including the Program Director, the Vice Chair of Education, the Residency Coordinator and 2 co-Chief Residents manage the residency training program of four residents per year. We also have a world class VR Simulation program for training ophthalmology residents, medical students as well as residents in other subspecialties. A robust calendar of CME programs provides outstanding exposure to regional and national experts in vision research and global eye health as well as all the subspecialties with an annual city-wide surgical wet lab for the 72 residents in Chicago.

We also have 8 full-time basic science research faculty. The main Loyola research facility is a 225K square foot Center for Translational Research and Education (CTRE), which opened in 2015 and houses the clinical Research Office (CRO) and research administration. A large HVA research facility is conveniently located nearby.
