Medical Director Opportunity at Lufkin State Supported Living Center

The Medical Director at Lufkin State Supported Living Center (SSLC) plays a pivotal role in managing, coordinating, and directing all medical services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This position oversees a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality medical care to residents with complex medical, psychiatric, and behavioral health needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs and supervises medical staff including Physicians, APRNs, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Dentists, and Psychiatrists
  • Participates in treatment team processes and provides primary care for a smaller caseload
  • Coordinates treatment for employees injured on the job and ensures compliance with regulatory standards
  • Leads the medical department, including hiring, training, and promoting staff development
  • Participates in survey and audit processes, identifies areas for improvement, and implements solutions
  • Serves on various committees and interfaces with state office leadership
  • Provides medical information to families and oversees staff participation in interdisciplinary planning conferences
  • Promotes safety and wellbeing of staff and coordinates treatment for injured employees

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical program with a medical doctor degree
  • Leadership or management experience in a clinical setting
  • Residency trained with a strong clinical background
  • Licensed MD in Texas with DEA registration and NPI enrollment
  • Knowledge of ICF-IID standards, HHSC policies, and Department of Justice Settlement Agreement
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead change effectively
