Service Line Division Head, Neurosurgery | Rochester Regional Health

Service Line Division Head of Neurosurgery

Rochester Regional Health
Rochester, New York

Rochester Regional Health (RRH) seeks a visionary and collaborative physician leader to serve as Service Line Division Head of Neurosurgery—a pivotal leadership role within one of the most comprehensive and advanced neurosciences platforms in the region.

This is more than a leadership opportunity—it’s an invitation to lead at scale, shape system-wide integration, and elevate neurosurgical care for patients across eight hospitals and more than 600 care sites. You’ll help unify and expand one of the system’s most high-impact divisions, supported by advanced technology, engaged teams, and a deep culture of collaboration.

About the Role

Reporting to the System Executive Medical Director, Neurosciences, the Division Head of Neurosurgery will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across the continuum of inpatient and outpatient neurosurgical care.

You will collaborate with affiliate department chairs, medical directors, and administrative leaders to drive integration, innovation, and accountability across a system poised for transformation. This role will also shape the broader Neurosciences Service Line—which includes Neurology, Stroke, and PM&R—positioning Neurosurgery as a cornerstone of RRH’s regional care strategy.

Neurosurgery at Rochester Regional Health

RRH’s neurosurgery program spans multiple high-volume campuses and is supported by cutting-edge intraoperative and imaging technology, including Brainlab, O-arm, ROSA robotics, and LITT. The division performs more than 1,000 neurosurgical procedures annually, with expertise in cranial, spine, trauma, tumor, Chiari malformation, epilepsy, and neuro-oncology cases.

Program highlights include:

  • Dedicated neurosurgical teams at Rochester General and Unity Hospitals
  • Strategic partnerships with Lipson Cancer Institute for integrated neuro-oncology care
  • Biplane neurointerventional suite at Rochester General Hospital
  • Telestroke and teleneuro capabilities system-wide
  • Ongoing investments in intraoperative MRI and neuroimmunology programs

You will inherit a program with strong momentum—where the opportunity lies in scaling excellence, expanding access, standardizing experience, and deepening programmatic reach across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Leadership: Develop and guide a geographically and clinically integrated neurosurgery service line across all RRH affiliates.
  • Strategic Direction: Set goals for program growth, recruitment and retention, and cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Quality & Patient Safety: Oversee performance metrics, quality outcomes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Education & Mentorship: Support resident and medical student education; champion ongoing professional development.
  • Regulatory Oversight: Ensure compliance with medical staff bylaws, credentialing standards, and institutional policies.
  • Operational Partnership: Collaborate with nursing, finance, and operations to optimize workflows and resource allocation.
  • Financial Stewardship: Partner with executive and operational leaders to guide budgeting and ensure fiscal sustainability.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Demonstrated success in clinical leadership within a complex, matrixed health system
  • High emotional intelligence, with exceptional communication, collaboration, and team-building skills
  • Transparent, approachable leadership style that builds trust and inspires engagement
  • Strategic thinker with operational insight and a data-driven mindset
  • Deep commitment to integration, professional growth, and a culture grounded in respect and equity

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD, DO, MBBS, DDS, or DMD; Board Certified in Neurosurgery or relevant subspecialty
  • Eligible for unrestricted New York State medical license
  • MBA or MHA preferred, though not required

You’ve led before—now lead what’s next.

At Rochester Regional Health, this is not a role in maintenance—it’s a mandate for momentum. The right leader will find a platform ready for activation, a system unified in vision, and a rare opportunity to shape neurosurgical care that will endure for years to come.
