Join Our Team as a Locum - Physician - General Medicine VA
Are you a dedicated general medicine physician seeking flexible, impactful work supporting our nation's Veterans? We invite experienced providers to join VHS as a Locum Physician, delivering essential compensation and pension exams and separation health assessments nationwide. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a difference while maintaining your professional independence through flexible scheduling and local engagements.
In this pivotal position, you will conduct interview-based assessments with some physical testing, focusing solely on evaluations—no prescribing or treatment involved. Providers must have their own office space and be comfortable working in various VA locations across Virginia, with schedules ranging from 1 to 3 days per week, according to site needs. The work is ongoing, on a PRN basis, with options for half or full-day shifts, accommodating your availability and preferences.
Required Skills:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) with current licensure in Virginia.
- Background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine.
- Experience with compensation and pension evaluations is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform interview-based assessments, with some physical testing (range of motion, muscle strength).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to adhere to protocols and maintain high-quality standards.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Prior experience conducting VA compensation & pension exams.
- Certifications relevant to veteran assessments or specialized medical evaluations.
- Familiarity with VA healthcare procedures and documentation.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- MD or DO with at least 2 years of clinical practice.
- Prior experience in military medicine, occupational health, or similar settings.
- Experience performing VA or disability evaluations is a plus but not mandatory.
Other Requirements:
- Providers must own and operate their own office space at designated VA locations.
- Commitment to punctuality and professionalism.
- Ability to complete exams accurately and efficiently, with minimal follow-up administrative work.
- Willingness to undergo quick credentialing and onboarding process.
- No reimbursement for certifications or portal training prior to start.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Hourly Rate: $624.00, with flat rates of $800 for half-day shifts (up to 4 hours), and $1600 for full days (5+ hours).
- Bonus: One-time $650 upon completing required training and first exams.
- Weekly pay via direct deposit.
