The mission of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Department of Surgery is the advancement of science through research and the training of undergraduate and graduate students in our discipline. The Department fosters a level of research and professional activity essential to the graduate and to the professional growth of the faculty. The Division provides faculty with clinical and research experiences that help them advance their professional careers.  Finally, faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and to the university community.

Chief Purpose of This Position in Support of the Above Mission or Goal:

This position is a collateral, non-tenure track faculty position in the area of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  The faculty member should have clinical interests in general plastic surgery, microsurgery, hand surgery, wound management, and have an interest in developing an academic practice.   The faculty member will support the division in teaching responsibilities at the VCU Medical Center.

Responsibilities:  

Teaching 

Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with direct oversight to the resident clinics at the VCU Medical Center.

 Research

Faculty member will establish clinical research projects with medical students and residents to establish evidence-based practice outcomes in the areas of clinical and translational research interests.

 Service

Faculty member will serve on departmental and hospital committees as assigned and participate in regional and national professional organizations.

 Clinical

Faculty member’s clinical responsibility will be in the care of the Plastic and Reconstructive patients on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as community facilities.  They will be responsible for the development of an active surgical practice, with the support of the Division and Department’s leadership. 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Commitment to Resident Education and teaching
  • Commitment to Clinical Research and Innovation
  • Fellowship Training in Microsurgery or Hand
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
