The Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine and Riley Children’s Hospital is seeking a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join a highly collaborative, team-based service providing inpatient consult-liaison psychiatric care to medically hospitalized children and adolescents.
This role is ideal for a psychiatrist who enjoys complex, medically integrated cases, values academic engagement and team-based care, and seeks an intellectually rewarding position with manageable volume and strong institutional support.
Typical patient presentations include:
• Psychiatric evaluation following suicide attempt or significant self-injury
• Psychiatric care requiring inpatient medical monitoring (IV meds, G-tubes, wound care)
• Eating disorders requiring medical stabilization
• Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (FNSD) impacting safe discharge
• Trauma-related behavioral dysregulation or TBI-associated symptoms
• Chronic pain syndromes (e.g., CRPS) with functional impairment
• Medical nonadherence requiring inpatient intervention
• CNS-involved medical conditions contributing to psychiatric symptoms (e.g., autoimmune encephalitis)
Avg patient volume is approximately 2–4 patients/day
Key Responsibilities
• Provide C-L psychiatric care to medically hospitalized pediatric patients
• Collaborate closely with hospitalists, subspecialists, nursing, social work, psychology, and case mgt
• Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows as part of the IUSoM academic mission
• Contribute to committees, program development, and improvement initiatives
• Engage in scholarly activity as desired (research not required, but opportunities available)
Schedule & Call
• Current schedule: M-F, approximately 8:30a – 4:30p
• Future opportunity: Potential transition to a 7-on / 7-off model that would include inpatient unit rounding on weekends
• Call: Low commitment (approximately 2 weekends every 6 months)
• Nighttime and overflow coverage supported by a designated team, supporting predictable end-of-day departures
Ideal Candidate Profile
• MD or DO (or foreign equivalent)
• BC/BE in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
• Comfortable with in person, bedside psychiatric care in medically complex patients
• Interest in C-L psychiatry and interdisciplinary teamwork
• Willingness to teach / work with learners
Compensation & Benefits
• Base salary: ~$281,200, with opportunity to approach $300,000+ total compensation
