Licensed Occupational Therapist - Mississippi (#R10238)

Location: Mississippi (Boswell Regional Center Main Campus (ICF/MR) and MAC, with travel to group homes in Magee, Wesson, Brookhaven, Taylorsville, and Bay Springs, Mississippi.)
Employment Type: Part-Time
Hourly Rate: $46.33/hour (up to 80 hours/month)

Position Overview:

The Occupational Therapist provides evaluation, treatment recommendations, consultation, and staff training to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities served by Boswell Regional Center (BRC). The therapist delivers part-time, on-site services across the main campus and associated group homes, focusing on improving functional skills, safety, and independence in daily activities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
    • Current, unrestricted Occupational Therapist license issued by the Mississippi State Board of Health.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of practice experience as an Occupational Therapist (experience with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities strongly preferred).
  • Technical Requirements:
    • Ability to meet all contractor onboarding requirements, including background checks and eligibility to work under Mississippi Employment Protection Act and E-Verify provisions.
    • Compliance with all BRC, Mississippi Department of Mental Health, HIPAA, and state/federal regulations required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual occupational therapy evaluations upon physician request or habilitation team referral.
  • Complete clear, thorough, and informative annual OT evaluation reports for assigned clients.
  • Identify OT treatment needs and recommendations that require a licensed Occupational Therapist and communicate these to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Recommend OT activities, therapeutic exercises, and adaptive strategies for daily implementation by direct-care staff.
  • Provide consultation regarding selection, acquisition, and appropriate use of OT-related supplies and equipment.
  • Attend habilitation and interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to person-centered plans.
  • Deliver in-service training and ongoing education for staff on OT programs, techniques, and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Communicate relevant clinical information to staff and leadership regarding client needs, risks, and progress.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with BRC policies, professional standards, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Adhere to all BRC and Mississippi Department of Mental Health policies and procedures.

Physical Examination Responsibilities:

  • Perform functional assessments related to range of motion, strength, coordination, balance, sensory processing, and activities of daily living as part of OT evaluations.
  • Assess needs for adaptive equipment, positioning devices, and environmental modifications to support safe mobility and self-care.
  • Document findings and recommendations in the clinical record consistent with OT standards of practice.

Medical Oversight Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing, psychology, and other disciplines on habilitation plans and risk management strategies.
  • Provide professional recommendations regarding OT-related interventions, precautions, and contraindications within the OT scope of practice.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of complex cases, changes in condition, or incidents that may impact functional status and need for OT services.
