Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled, board-certified Neurosurgeon to provide 24-hour call coverage and perform both spinal and cranial surgeries. The position involves hospital-based responsibilities, including rounding, admits, emergent surgeries, and inpatient care. You will work alongside a specialized team, utilizing on-site imaging, lab, procedures, and OR facilities, to deliver comprehensive neurosurgical services. This role combines clinical excellence with the flexibility of locum work, offering a vital service to the Petoskey community.

Required Skills
  • Board-certified Neurosurgeon (absolutely no BE candidates)
  • Proven experience in both spinal and cranial procedures
  • Ability to manage emergent surgeries and inpatient rounding
  • Strong knowledge of hospital-based neurosurgery operations
  • Competence in working with the Cerner Electronic Medical Record system
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a 24-hour call environment

Nice to Have Skills
  • Experience working in a rural or community hospital setting
  • Familiarity with Michigan healthcare protocols and regulations
  • Additional certifications in advanced neurosurgical techniques
  • Prior experience working with multidisciplinary teams including APPs

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Medical Degree (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Board certification in Neurosurgery
  • Minimum of 3+ years post-residency neurosurgical experience working in hospital settings
  • Previous locum or temporary medical roles are advantageous

Other Requirements
  • Active medical license in Michigan or eligibility for licensure
  • Ability to commit to a start date of January 1, 2026, with open blocks for coverage
  • Willingness to participate in on-call duties, including weekends and holidays
  • Must clock in/out via Doctime; no paper timesheets
  • Travel, lodging, and incidental expenses are covered within policy limits, with specific guidelines on booking accommodations and reimbursements
  • No reimbursement for Med Staff Fees or third-party lodging bookings
  • The schedule includes 24-hour call shifts on a rotating basis, with coverage for approximately 14 days per month
