Forrest General Hospital (FGH)l, Hattiesburg, MS, Level II Trauma Center is seeking a Trauma Surgeon to replace a retiring physician.

We are a Level II Adult Trauma Center and Secondary Pediatric Trauma Center. We have a 19-county service area in Southeast Mississippi.

  • The Emergency Department at Forrest General has a total of 56 beds.
  • Forrest General Hospital operates a follow-up outpatient trauma clinic with 10 exam rooms. The trauma clinic is shared with hospital employed  orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons.
  • EPIC electronic medical record
  • 2 DaVinci robots
  • Private in-house call suite for use while on call

Position Overview:

The typical work schedule includes coverage for 15 to 18 days/month. When working on days, half of the scheduled shifts are 12-hour trauma call shifts and half are rounding/OR duty (short day).
The schedule is managed internally by the surgeon’s group and requests for time off are accommodated.

  • Surgical Cases: 1-2
  • Trauma Activations: Average 4-6 trauma activations per 24/hours
  • Work Week: Average 3-4 days per week.
  • Weekend coverage: Average 1 weekend per 3. Weekend duty is 12-hour shifts (7-7, either days or nights).
  • Salary with quarterly bonus for meeting quality metrics. No RVUs.
