Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is seeking a visionary physician executive for a multifaceted leadership role overseeing pediatrics at the K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC) and the Southern Region of HMH. Based at JSUMC—a top-ranked academic medical center and home to the state’s only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center—this position will lead clinical care, guide regional strategy, and contribute to the academic vision for pediatrics.

This is a premier opportunity for a distinguished leader to drive the strategic vision for pediatric care, education, and research across a major integrated health network. The successful candidate will be responsible for clinical quality and operations at JSUMC, regional service line growth, the academic mission and faculty development at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, and innovative clinical program development across the system.

We are seeking a board-certified pediatrician or pediatric specialist with a significant track record of progressive administrative leadership in an academic healthcare setting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to clinical excellence, medical education, and research, with the ability to lead and inspire in a complex, matrixed environment.

A Multifaceted Leadership Role

  • This pivotal role encompasses leadership across clinical, administrative, academic, and regional domains, offering a unique platform to influence pediatric care at every level.
  • The Chair reports to the Chief Medical Officer at JSUMC.
  • Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital/Jersey Shore University Medical Center

The Chair will be accountable for all professional and administrative activities within the department. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the quality and efficiency of patient care.
  • Developing and implementing departmental programs for credentials review, continuing medical education, and performance improvement.
  • Serving as a member of the Medical Executive Committee, providing guidance on medical policies.
  • Maintaining a continuous review of professional performance and mediating conflicts.
  • Developing and managing the departmental budget and business plan.
  • Actively participating in various medical staff and administrative committees.

Regional Chair of Pediatrics for the Southern Region

Duties will include: 

  • Ensuring the highest standard of care across the southern region of HMH.
  • Collaborating with local hospital leadership to formulate and implement a strategic plan for pediatrics.
  • Providing leadership to employed physicians, including recruitment, evaluation, and mentorship.
  • Aligning regional strategy with community hospitals.

Requirements:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Progressive leadership experience in academic pediatrics
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in New Jersey
  • Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in general pediatrics or a pediatric subspecialty (American Board of Pediatrics)

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The minimum base salary for this position is $394,302. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good-faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

Specialization: Area of specialization and sub-specialization.

Labor Market Data: Compensation is benchmarked against market data to ensure competitiveness.

Experience: Years of relevant experience in the areas of specialization and sub-specialization.

Leadership: Relevant experience as a department chair or chief, practice group leader, or other leadership roles.

Education and Certifications: Degrees attained, residencies, fellowships, board certifications, research, and publications.

Productivity: Levels of productivity, quality and patient satisfaction.

Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in relevant skills and competencies.

Geographic Location: Cost of living and market rates for the specific location.

Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the specialty and/or sub-specialty.

Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered. 

In addition to our compensation for full-time and part-time (20+ hours/week) positions, HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits. The final compensation and benefits package will be discussed during the interview process.
