Join Our Team as a Locum Physician—Hematology & Oncology in Coos Bay, OR
Embark on a rewarding temporary opportunity dedicated to improving patient outcomes in a vibrant outpatient cancer care environment. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Hematology/Oncology Physician to provide essential coverage at Bay Area Hospital’s outpatient cancer center. This role plays a vital part in delivering timely, high-quality care to patients through a dynamic and collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities include functioning as a core member of the clinical patient care team, performing tasks and procedures aligned with your training and licensure as a medical oncologist or hematologist. You will utilize EMR systems (EPIC) to ensure efficient patient documentation and care delivery. The position involves outpatient responsibilities primarily focused on solid tumor diagnoses, with appropriate inpatient support during chemotherapy admissions.
This opportunity is ideal for physicians seeking flexible, impactful work in a supportive environment. You will cover a minimum of two weeks per month, with scheduling arranged for 4 to 5 days a week, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The call schedule encompasses one weekend every four weeks (7 days of call total), with a 1:4 call rotation. The practice currently includes three physicians and two Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), with a trauma level 3 facility.
Required Skills:
- Valid medical license with board certification in Hematology or Oncology
- Proven experience in outpatient cancer care management
- Proficiency in EMR systems, preferably EPIC
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and procedural skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience managing benign hematology cases
- Familiarity with outpatient chemotherapy protocols
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced setting
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
- Completion of fellowship in Hematology and Oncology
- Minimum of 2 years of post-residency clinical experience in oncology/hematology
Other Requirements:
- Credentialing anticipated within 6-8 weeks
- Commitment to providing care according to all applicable state, federal, and local laws
- Willingness to undergo site orientation, including 4 hours of unpaid EPIC training
- Travel and lodging arrangements will be coordinated and covered
- Ability to work in a collaborative outpatient setting with occasional inpatient consults
Compensation for this locum role is competitive, with hourly pay rates commensurate with experience and include malpractice coverage, with applicable overtime and on-call pay. Please note that the hourly rate is not specified here and will be discussed during the hiring process.
