Transform Lives: Join Our Interdisciplinary Team as the MHICM Psychiatrist!

The job responsibilities and duties of this position within the Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) Program involve developing, implementing, and evaluating a behaviorally oriented program focused on psychosocial rehabilitation, intensive case management, and community-based treatment for veterans with chronic mental illness who are frequent users of Inpatient Mental Health services.

The role requires working within an interdisciplinary treatment team, conducting extensive liaison activities to ensure continuity of care for outpatient veterans, and providing a full range of therapeutic interventions, including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, and determining the appropriate level of care. Additional duties include ordering diagnostic tests, making treatment decisions based on findings, providing clinical oversight, participating in team meetings, treatment planning, and supervising and teaching trainees.

MHICM provides about 70% of our care in the community which gives you the opportunity to work closely with veterans and families in their homes and Board and Care facilities. This position will also work closely with veterans who are experiencing homelessness or are newly housed and need enhanced home-based mental health support. The position aims to enhance the health status, quality of life, and community functioning of veterans through recovery-oriented care planning, focusing on building adaptive skills, self-care, independent living, employment, crisis resolution, and problem-solving.

There is opportunity to teach and/or supervise psychiatry residents through our affiliation with UCLA with eligibility for a health sciences faculty appointment within the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine.
