Surgical Pathologist

Rochester Regional Health (RRH) is seeking two AP/CP board-certified or board-eligible pathologists to join our collegial and collaborative pathology team serving seven regional hospitals across the Rochester, Finger Lakes, and St. Lawrence regions. One position is based at Rochester General Hospital (RGH) and the second at Unity Hospital (UH).

These hospital-based roles offer a rewarding combination of general surgical pathology and cytopathology, along with the opportunity to participate in laboratory directorship of acute care laboratories. While 3–5 years of independent sign-out experience is preferred, new graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Rochester General Hospital (RGH): 528-bed hospital with 20 pathologists and approximately 56,000 surgical cases annually 
  • Unity Hospital (UH): 471-bed hospital with 6 pathologists and approximately 24,000 surgical cases annually 
  • Approximately 3,500 FNAs and 36,000 Pap tests shared between RGH and UH 
  • CAP-accredited laboratories with strong quality and safety standards

Key Responsibilities

  • General surgical pathology and cytopathology sign-out 
  • Frozen section and intraoperative consultation services 
  • Participation in tumor boards and multidisciplinary clinical conferences 
  • Clinical pathology coverage and laboratory oversight responsibilities encouraged, though not currently required

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school 
  • AP/CP board certification or board eligibility 
  • Fellowship training preferred, including (but not limited to) oncologic pathology, cytopathology, head and neck pathology, gynecologic pathology, pulmonary/thoracic pathology, or another surgical pathology subspecialty 
  • Eligibility for New York State medical licensure 
  • Strong diagnostic acumen, communication, and organizational skills 
  • Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and high-quality patient care
