Chief Hospitalist - Central Maine Healthcare

Central Maine Healthcare (CMH), which is now part of Prime Healthcare, is currently looking for a Chief Hospitalist. This physician leader will provide strategic, clinical, and operational oversight for Hospital Medicine services across CMH’s acute care hospitals, including:

• Central Maine Medical Center
• Bridgton Hospital
• Rumford Hospital

The Chief will play a key role in advancing high-quality, patient-centered inpatient care while fostering physician engagement, operational excellence, and strong collaboration across both tertiary and critical access settings.

Position Overview

Reporting to the SVP of Hospital Operations, this role includes:

• Clinical & Program Leadership
• Provide overall clinical leadership for Hospital Medicine services across CMH facilities
• Maintain active clinical practice appropriate to role and site needs
• Support patient flow, length-of-stay management, and effective care transitions
• Physician Leadership & Engagement
• Lead recruitment, retention, and development of hospitalists and advanced practice providers
• Promote professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and physician wellness
• Partner on performance management, peer review, and succession planning
• Quality, Safety & Operations
• Drive system-wide quality improvement initiatives
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
• Develop sustainable staffing and coverage models
• Support financial stewardship and workforce planning

Qualifications

Required:

• MD or DO from an accredited institution
• Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
• Eligible for or current Maine medical licensure
• Proven leadership experience in Hospital Medicine or similar physician leadership role

Preferred:

• Experience in community or rural hospital settings
• Multi-site/system-based leadership experience
• Track record in quality improvement and operational redesign
• This role requires a visible leadership presence across CMH hospitals and a strong commitment to collaboration, rural health, and data-informed decision-making.
