Job Description:

UToledo Health and the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences has a faculty position opening for a Ultrasound Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a board certified or board eligible candidate who has completed residency training in Emergency Medicine as well as fellowship training in Emergency Ultrasound.

This position offers a unique opportunity to build upon the academic affiliation of University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (UT) with a large vibrant community hospital that has expanded our opportunities for our fellows, residents, and students; to increase the number and expertise of the full-time faculty; and to enhance our growing research endeavors.

The Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to excellence in clinical care, education, and research. The Ultrasound Director will play a key leadership role in advancing point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) education across both graduate and undergraduate medical education programs, supporting innovation in curriculum development, competency assessment, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee ultrasound education for Emergency Medicine residents and medical students, including didactic sessions, hands-on training, and competency assessments.
  • Develop, implement, and manage ultrasound curriculum components, including resident rotations, orientation programs, and longitudinal training experiences.
  • Monitor and evaluate learner progress through scan tracking, proficiency assessments, and structured feedback, including remediation planning when needed.
  • Collaborate with residency and medical school leadership to advance ultrasound education, including regular reporting to the Program Director and undergraduate medical education leadership.
  • Serve as core faculty in the Emergency Medicine residency, contributing to teaching, mentorship, conference leadership, bedside instruction, and scholarly activity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine required
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Emergency Medicine
  • Successful completion of an Emergency Medicine residency; fellowship training in Emergency Ultrasound required
  • Current and unrestricted licensure in the State of Ohio required, prior to beginning the position
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience
  • Experience in working as a team of healthcare professionals and collaborating with them to ensure positive, effective patient experiences with our organization
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
