Gastroenterology Staff Physician
The VA Health Care System is currently recruiting Gastroenterology Staff Physicians at the following locations:
Harlingen VA Health Care Center – Harlingen, Texas
Position Highlights
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
- No call, no weekends
- Patient Volume: 5–10 patients per day (subject to change)
Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care
- Diagnose and manage GI conditions, with a focus on hepatitis care
- Develop and implement diagnostic and therapeutic care plans
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care and provide patient/family education
- Participate in clinical, educational, and research activities, as appropriate
Procedural Experience
Expected proficiency may include:
- EGD, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy
- Polypectomy, PEG placement, small bowel and liver biopsy
- Esophageal dilation, motility studies, band ligation, sclerotherapy
- Stent placement, laser therapies, and treatment of GI bleeding
Compensation & Benefits

Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited U.S. medical school
- Completion of Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship
- Current, unrestricted U.S. medical license
- DEA eligibility
- 3–5 years GI experience preferred (VA or DoD experience a plus)
- Teaching, mentoring, or research experience desirable
