The Division of Hematology and Oncology at UCSF Health is seeking applicants for a Breast Oncologist position to join one of UCSF’s affiliated clinical practices in the Bay Area. While opportunities exist to provide care across a broad range of malignant conditions, this position will focus primarily, though not exclusively, on the management of hematologic disorders, both malignant and non-malignant.

Position Overview

The Breast Medical Oncologist will provide comprehensive outpatient cancer care to patients with breast disease, including both acute and long-term management across the spectrum of breast cancer. This role emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration, partnering closely with surgical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, imaging, and supportive services to deliver high quality, patient-centered care. The physician will also coordinate complex cases with UCSF’s tertiary and quaternary care hospitals.

Oncologists in this position will have opportunities for academic collaboration, participation in clinical trials, and professional growth within UCSF’s nationally recognized oncology program, with expectations aligned to clinical excellence, research engagement, and educational contributions.

.Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive acute and chronic hematologic and oncologic care, with a primary emphasis on hematologic disorders
  • Make clinical judgments regarding specialty referrals and consultations
  • Admit patients to affiliated regional hospitals as needed and refer patients to UCSF primary hospitals for tertiary and quaternary care when indicated
  • Deliver care that prioritizes patient dignity, equity, safety, and cost effective treatment

Clinical Effort

  • A 100% FTE appointment consists of eight (8) half?day (four-hour) clinical sessions per week
  • Less than 100% FTE positions will be structured proportionally
  • 20% protected administrative time is allocated to manage patient panels, participate in team-based activities, and support after hours coverage responsibilities

Academic and Collaborative Opportunity

Breast Oncologists in this role may have the opportunity to spend up to one day per week at UCSF’s Parnassus Cancer Clinic, focused on comprehensive outpatient breast cancer care. This opportunity is designed to:

  • Deliver integrated, multidisciplinary care
    Patients and their families receive whole person care through coordinated support from physicians, genetic counselors, psychologists, social workers, and nutritionists.
  • Leverage dedicated nurse navigator support
    Experienced breast cancer nurse navigators assist patients throughout diagnosis and treatment, providing education, guidance, and continuity of care.
  • Strengthen integration between community based physicians and UCSF faculty
    This model promotes seamless collaboration and care coordination across clinical settings.
  • Enable participation in clinical trials
    Physicians will have access to active breast cancer clinical trials and research initiatives within UCSF.
  • Support collaborative care models and academic engagement
    The role encourages participation in multidisciplinary conferences, academic collaboration, and professional development.

Candidate Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent degree
  • Board certified or board eligible in Medical Oncology
  • Completion of a 3 year Hematology-Oncology fellowship or Medical Oncology
  • Eligibility for licensure in the State of California
  • Strong training background with excellent references

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The  base salary range for this position is $450,000.00 This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
