Job Description

Academic Cornea Ophthalmologist

Pure Cornea. Pure Academics. University of Florida

Position Highlights

  • Dedicated 100% cornea specialty practice - no general Ophthalmology, no cataract volume pressure, just the complex, rewarding cornea work you trained for.
  • Step into one of the most respected academic cornea programs in the Southeast - a high-volume regional referral center where the complexity and case mix reflect the career you envisioned in fellowship.
  • Balanced academic schedule with 4.5 clinical days per week, protected administrative time, and a predictable clinic and OR structure that respects your time.
  • Only 2–3 weeks of call per year - residents and fellows handle first call, you supervise. Your life outside the hospital remains yours.
  • Clinic and ASC co-located at a single site - no travel between locations, no wasted time.
  • Strong senior-faculty mentorship with clear paths for academic advancement, leadership, and national society involvement.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive academic compensation - structured around the volume and work/life balance this role offers, with RVU-based productivity incentives and real long-term earning potential.
  • Sign-on and relocation support available to assist with your transition into the role.
  • Comprehensive benefits including no-cost physician health insurance, malpractice with tail, and a strong university retirement program with employer contributions equaling long-term financial stability.
  • Eligible employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).

Qualifications

  • Fellowship training in cornea ophthalmology; board-certified or board-eligible.
  • Licensed or eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Florida.
  • Clinically comfortable with complex corneal and anterior segment pathology.
  • Academic medicine is your calling - you're drawn to teaching, mentorship, and the intellectual environment of a major research institution.

About the Community

  • A city shaped by the University of Florida - intellectually engaged, professionally stable, and a genuinely livable community that's hard to leave.
  • Short commutes, a centralized medical campus, and a cost of living that makes your salary go further.
  • College town energy with real amenities - world-class athletics, a vibrant dining and arts scene, and a community that stays alive year-round.
  • Centrally located in Florida, with Gulf and Atlantic beaches within two hours and Orlando within 90 minutes.
  • Physicians come here and stay because of meaningful work, a respected institution, and a quality of life that makes this a destination, not a stepping stone.
