Position Highlights

  • 100% inpatient, acute-care GI program at a Level II, 188-bed hospital on the Epic EMR.
  • Predictable schedule: 24-hour shifts, 7–10 days per month for full-time; PRN option for sporadic / gap coverage.
  • Manageable volume — roughly 6 patients per day, with night call-ins averaging about twice a week.
  • Collaborative team of 2–3 Synergy and 2–3 hospital-employed physicians, supported by 4 APPs who cover clinic and carry no call.
  • Located in Oregon's scenic Willamette Valley — riverfront trails, vineyards, and coastal getaways. Eugene Airport is about 1 hour away; Portland is 1.5–2 hours.

Position Benefits

  • Compensation: $4,300 per 24-hour shift, plus a $150 daily housing stipend.
  • Malpractice: Provided by the hospital on an occurrence-based policy — no tail coverage required.
  • Licensure support: Synergy reimburses up to $500 toward a new Oregon medical license, and our team can assist with obtaining one.
  • Fast-track onboarding: We handle licensing, credentialing, and performance management to get you working quickly.
  • IC benefit partners: As a 1099 contractor, you can access two partner agencies for retirement, taxes, entity formation, and health benefits.

Position Requirements

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Gastroenterology.
  • ERCP and EUS skills required.
  • Proficiency in EGD and colonoscopy, with experience in acute GI care.
  • 1–2 years of experience.
  • Active Oregon medical license preferred (licensing assistance available).
  • Current CV required.

About Synergy Health Partners

Synergy Health Partners is a physician-founded organization that has been building hospital-based surgical and specialty programs since 2012. It was founded by surgeons who pioneered the "surgicalist" model — a hospital-based career path that separates acute, hospital-based care from the administrative grind of private practice. Today the group partners with hospitals nationwide, from Oregon to Georgia, placing board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians into programs across gastroenterology, orthopedics, general surgery, urology, and anesthesiology.

What sets the model apart is the lifestyle it's designed around. Rather than carrying a practice year-round, physicians typically work in concentrated blocks — often seven to ten days a month — with predictable, protected time off in between. The idea is to let you do the clinical work you trained for at a high level while Synergy absorbs the operational weight: recruitment, licensing, credentialing, malpractice, and performance management. For many physicians coming out of private practice or weighing locums work, it's a middle path that keeps the medicine and drops the overhead.

A key distinction from locum tenens is belonging. Unlike temporary locums physicians, Synergy's physicians are dedicated to their assigned hospital — they function as part of a coordinated clinical team, serve on committees, and act as clinical leaders in the communities they serve. Teams work coordinated shifts around the clock with detailed handoffs to cover emergent, acute, and inpatient consult needs, so you're stepping into continuity and colleagues, not a revolving door. You still get challenging cases, real physician–patient interaction, and continuity of care — just condensed into a schedule you help shape, and when the block is done, the time off is genuinely yours.

The "why join" case, in short:

  • Real work-life balance — concentrated work blocks and predictable, uninterrupted time off, built around clinicians' personal and professional interests.
  • Clinical focus over administration — the model is built to reduce administrative hassle so you can concentrate on patient care.
  • A team, not a temp gig — you become an active member of the hospital's medical staff with a defined role and colleagues.
  • The back office is handled — licensing, credentialing, malpractice, and management are Synergy's job, not yours.
  • Physician-led — the company is run by people who've done the work; its current Chief Medical Officer is an orthopedic surgeon who leads physician recruitment, retention, and program management.
