About UK HealthCare

UK HealthCare is the academic medical center and health system of the University of Kentucky, and the destination for advanced and complex care across the Commonwealth. Serving Lexington and the surrounding region since 1962, the system has grown to include the flagship Albert B. Chandler Hospital, more than 80 specialized clinics, and over 9,000 physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and health care professionals.

As an academic health system, we offer providers something rare: the resources of a major research university paired with the case complexity that drives meaningful clinical work. UK HealthCare is home to a Level I Trauma Center, a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the UK Markey Cancer Center — the only National Cancer Institute–designated cancer center in Kentucky. Patients come to us from every corner of the state because we provide care that isn't available anywhere else; more than half of our admissions are transfers, often the sickest and most complex patients in the region. Roughly 80% of organ transplants in Kentucky are performed here.

For providers, that means working alongside nationally recognized specialists, contributing to teaching and research if you choose to, and practicing at the top of your scope on cases that genuinely matter. We are committed to ensuring that every Kentuckian — no matter how rare their illness or how far they live from a major center — has access to exceptional care close to home. Joining UK HealthCare means joining that mission.

Located in Lexington, you'll also enjoy one of the most livable mid-sized cities in the country: a walkable downtown, a nationally ranked university community, the heart of Bluegrass horse country, and an affordable cost of living with quick access to outdoor recreation.
