Associate Medical Director, Infection Prevention & Antimicrobial Stewardship

Jackson Health System is seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate Medical Director of Infection Prevention & Antimicrobial Stewardship to join our leadership team at Jackson Memorial Hospital. This role blends 30% clinical responsibilities and 70% administrative leadership, supporting systemwide infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, and quality improvement initiatives.
We are looking for a seasoned and Board Certified Infectious Diseases physician who thrives in a fast?paced environment, collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and demonstrates strong leadership under pressure. This position is not open to new fellowship graduates.
Position Highlights
- Clinical/Administrative Split: 30% clinical / 70% administrative
- Reports to: Chief of Infection Control & Prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship, JHS
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical care for patients with complex infectious diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Lead and support outbreak response efforts and initiatives to reduce multidrug?resistant organisms.
- Review and implement strategies to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
- Interpret epidemiologic data and enhance data infrastructure to meet NHSN, CMS, and other reporting standards.
- Supervise infectious diseases clinical pharmacists; meet weekly/bi?weekly and maintain daily communication.
- Provide physician backup for antimicrobial stewardship activities, including agent restrictions and program recommendations.
- Analyze antimicrobial consumption and expenditures; implement cost?effective optimization strategies.
- Develop and update antimicrobial guidelines, review formulary changes, and utilize antibiograms to guide empiric therapy.
- Serve as liaison between pharmacy and medical staff on stewardship-related issues.
- Participate in Anti?Infective Subcommittee meetings and contribute to pharmacy resident training.
- Review and streamline antimicrobial therapy, power plans, and laboratory orders within Cerner.
- Coordinate decisions related to antimicrobial drug shortages and restriction procedures.
- Engage in quality improvement projects and scholarly work across Jackson Health System.
- Provide education to clinical departments on appropriate antimicrobial use.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications/Certifications:
- MD or DO degree.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
- 7–10 years of relevant experience; strong background in patient safety and quality improvement preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven ability to maintain composure and sound judgment in high?pressure or emergent situations.
- Valid Florida Medical License.
- DEA and board certification or eligible in GI required. Other specialty certifications related to specialty are a plus.
- American Heart Association(AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) (ACLS)for Healthcare Providers certification with at least 6 months validity required.
