Academic Radiation Oncologist – Genitourinary Oncology

The University of Michigan Department of Radiation Oncology invites applications for a board-certified or board-eligible Radiation Oncologist to join its academic faculty at the Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor level.

This unique opportunity combines practice in two complementary clinical settings. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive general radiation oncology care at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System while developing a specialized Genitourinary (GU) Radiation Oncology practice, including high-dose-rate brachytherapy, at the University of Michigan.

Position Highlights

  • Provide comprehensive general radiation oncology care to Veterans at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System
  • Provide specialized care for patients with genitourinary cancers at the University of Michigan
  • Support and contribute to a GU brachytherapy program
  • Collaborate closely with University of Michigan faculty, particularly within GU Oncology
  • Participate in clinical research and investigator-initiated clinical trials
  • Access a 3T MR Simulator with unique clinical research opportunities for GU cancers
  • Utilize advanced treatment and planning techniques, including PET, 4D CT, MRI, image-guided brachytherapy, IGRT, stereotactic radiosurgery, and SBRT
  • Teach and mentor Radiation Oncology residents and medical students
  • Participate in institutional tumor boards and departmental meetings

At the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, the physician will treat a broad spectrum of malignancies within a multidisciplinary environment. At the University of Michigan, the physician will provide specialized clinical care for patients with GU cancers, with particular emphasis on supporting the brachytherapy program.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the University of Michigan's mission of clinical care, education, and research. Opportunities include resident rotations and mentorship, medical student education, clinical research projects with trainees, and access to the University of Michigan Clinical Trials Office to open investigator-initiated trials.

Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • Medical degree with completion of an ACGME-accredited Radiation Oncology residency
  • Board certification or board eligibility through the American Board of Radiology
  • Expertise in a variety of radiation treatment methods
  • Current Michigan medical licensure or the ability to obtain appropriate licensure in Michigan

A previous record of scientific publications, research, and teaching is desirable. Experience in multimodality treatment planning and image-guided brachytherapy, as well as an interest in IGRT, stereotactic radiosurgery, and SBRT, is strongly desired.
