POSITION DETAILS: The Salisbury VA Health Care System is seeking an accomplished physician leader to serve as Associate Chief of Medicine (ACOM) in support of the Medical Service. The ACOM, in collaboration with the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), provides clinical and administrative oversight to ensure access, efficiency, and high-quality care throughout the Medical Service. This includes supporting compliance with VHA, VISN, and facility policies, as well as accreditation standards. Key responsibilities include participating in provider recruitment, onboarding, and privileging; conducting continuous quality assessment and performance evaluations; and supporting initiatives to enhance patient care services. The ACOM will act as an alternate to the ACOS on professional boards, committees, and in labor relations, providing independent recommendations on clinical practices and contributing to regulatory compliance efforts. The ACOM assists with staff education and development, facilitates peer review and mortality reviews, and ensures timely, accurate medical record documentation. The incumbent will support medical staff in adopting new technologies and best practices, and may chair or represent the service at various internal committees. Additional duties include collaborating on Medical Service reports, mentoring providers, and serving as an attending physician within approved privileges. This leadership position offers the opportunity to shape the direction of the Medical Service, drive continuous quality improvement, and champion excellence in Veteran care across the Salisbury VA Healthcare System.

The W.G. Hefner VAMC is a 484-bed medical center located in Salisbury, North Carolina. Inpatient services are provided for acute medicine, cardiology, surgery, psychiatry, physical rehabilitation, subacute and extended care, neuropsychiatry services, psychiatric intensive care, and geropsychiatry. Primary and specialized outpatient services are provided at the medical center and outpatient clinics. The medical center is affiliated with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, with a focus on resident involvement in primary care, dermatology, rehabilitation, ophthalmology, and psychiatry.
