Medical Director / Family Medicine Physician | Missoula, Montana

Partnership Health Center is recruiting an experienced Family Medicine physician leader for a full-time Medical Director role. 

Position Highlights

• 50/50 role structure: two days per week in outpatient clinic and two days per week focused on Medical Director administrative and leadership responsibilities.
• 100% outpatient primary care across the lifespan, serving a diverse safety-net population, with no inpatient rounding requirement.
• Meaningful leadership scope across clinical care, quality, operations, and medical staff committees.
• Approximately 0.5 clinical FTE, with encounter expectations prorated to the half-time clinical component.
• Epic EMR with MyChart and ambient documentation (DAX) support to help streamline clinical workflows.
• Teaching and precepting opportunities with the Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana, plus quality-improvement and population-health involvement.
• Multidisciplinary team with integrated behavioral health, dental, pharmacy, care management, SUD/MOUD, Ryan White/HIV services, and residency resources.
• Telemedicine available when clinically appropriate, with office-based procedures consistent with training, privileges, and clinic resources.
• High-priority search: Partnership Health Center is looking to move quickly on qualified candidates. A CV is sufficient for initial submission; no formal presentation letter is required.
• Live and work in Missoula, a vibrant college town with year-round hiking, mountain biking, skiing, paddling, and fly fishing minutes from town.

Compensation & Benefits

• $240,000 base salary with an initial two-year compensation guarantee.
• Annual Medical Director incentive of up to $25,000, based on providers meeting encounter goals; this is not an individual per-encounter incentive.
• $20,000 sign-on bonus.
• Montana PERS defined-benefit pension: An employer-funded state pension plan with approximately a 9% employer contribution. 
• PSLF-eligible nonprofit/FQHC employment; NHSC loan-repayment eligibility may be available to eligible clinicians, subject to program rules and funding.
• Comprehensive employed benefits package.
• $4,375 annual CME allowance plus 5 CME days.
• 140 hours of front-loaded PTO.
• Negotiable relocation stipend for candidates moving more than 100 miles from the site.
• FTCA malpractice coverage for eligible FQHC clinical activities; supplemental/tail details should be confirmed.
• Support/reimbursement for eligible licensing and DEA expenses; confirm current policy.

Candidate Profile

• MD or DO; Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine.
• At least five years of post-training clinical experience and active BLS certification.
• Active or eligible for a Montana medical license; no visa sponsorship is available.
• Two or more years of prior leadership experience is preferred.
• FQHC experience is helpful but not required; collaborative physician leaders committed to accessible, high-quality care are encouraged to apply.

Partnership Health Center (PHC) is a nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center based in Missoula, Montana. Our mission is Caring for the whole person through compassion, connection, and community. Founded in 1993 in the county health department's basement, PHC transitioned in 2026 from operating under Missoula County to a fully independent nonprofit organization. PHC has grown into a network of community clinics serving more than 18,000 patients a year, with locations including the main clinic at the Creamery Building downtown, the local food bank, a homeless shelter, and several school-based sites. Services include primary medical care, pharmacy, behavioral health, dental care, and care coordination and support services, with a commitment to serving patients regardless of income or insurance status.
