Title: Staff Intensivist

Duties: The Staff Intensivist at the Cleveland Clinic working within the Critical Care Center and the Anesthesiology Department, Division of Surgical Critical Care is responsible for providing clinical care to the Clinic’s diverse patient population, including routine medical and surgical patients, as well as abdominal organ transplants, heart and lung transplants, and ventricular assist devices. He or she works within a critical care team model comprised of residents, fellows, acute care nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, administering direct care to hospitalized patients and examining, diagnosing, and treating critically ill patients in the medical, surgical, and cardiac intensive care units. The Staff Intensivist is responsible for the quality of care provided to ICU patients. Additional duties include: assisting in the development of practice standards for ICU staff and directing, and coordinating, activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, etc.; supervising patient care personnel; acting as a resource for consultation to other physicians as needed; participating in educational activities for Medical, Nursing, and public audiences; participating in quality assessment and improvement activities, including, but not limited to Electronic Medical Record, patient/customer satisfaction survey scores, and other organizational and System targets; assuring continuity of care through adequate scheduling and tracking of return visits, completion of treatment plans, and follow-up of chronic problems, abnormal tests, and "no-shows"; providing appropriate patient education including clear explanation of treatment, the use and side effects of prescribed medications, health maintenance, and the use of appropriate educational handouts or other written instructions; providing an accounting of services rendered and accurate, specific diagnosis codes for each patient by completing appropriate billing/reimbursement documentation; identifying opportunities to improve processes, reports, or systems that take advantage or cost savings, employee satisfaction, and/or customer satisfaction while promoting and practicing economical and effective healthcare; and preparing government and organizational reports on birth, death, and disease statistics, workforce evaluations, or the medical status of individuals and preparing official health documents or records. The Staff Intensivist performs these duties independently and exercises critical thinking skills and decisive judgment with minimal supervision. Weekday and weekend phone call responsibilities and periodic weekend hours as needed.
Requirements: At minimum, the position requires an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent as determined by a credentials evaluation or as evidenced by an ECFMG certificate; completion of a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine or Cardiovascular Critical Care Medicine; and eligibility for medical licensure in Ohio.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience $497,025-$537,000 per year)

The salary range displayed in this job posting reflects the anticipated salary range for new physicians hired into full-time (100% FTE) positions. This range is generally aligned with or below the 50th percentile of nationally recognized compensation benchmarks by specialty. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined in accordance with fair market value, considering factors such as professional experience, clinical expertise, board certification, work history, and FTE.
