Ludwick Eye Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to join our established team in Hagerstown, Maryland. As part of the Ophthalmic Outpatient Center (OOMC), Ludwick Eye Center is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-focused ophthalmic care while providing physicians with the clinical resources, experienced support staff, and infrastructure needed to build a successful and rewarding practice.

The Opportunity 

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive ophthalmic care across a broad range of medical and surgical conditions, with the opportunity to develop a strong patient following within an established practice. 

You will work alongside experienced ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, and clinical staff to deliver coordinated care and an exceptional patient experience. The role offers the opportunity to manage a diverse patient population while performing cataract and other anterior segment procedures based on your clinical interests and surgical expertise.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Perform comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of ocular diseases and conditions. 
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on each patient's clinical needs, visual goals, and overall health. 
  • Provide medical and surgical management of cataracts, glaucoma, and other common ophthalmic conditions. 
  • Perform cataract extraction and other appropriate anterior segment procedures based on training and clinical expertise. 
  • Evaluate and manage patients requiring both routine and complex ophthalmic care. 
  • Collaborate with optometrists, ophthalmologists, technicians, and other clinical team members to ensure seamless continuity of care. 
  • Educate patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and preventive eye health. 
  • Develop strong, lasting relationships with patients and referring providers. 
  • Maintain thorough and accurate clinical documentation while adhering to the highest standards of patient safety, quality, and professional ethics. 
  • Stay current with advances in ophthalmology, surgical techniques, diagnostic technology, and evidence-based treatment. 
  • Contribute to a collaborative practice culture focused on clinical excellence and outstanding patient care. 

Qualifications 

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. 
  • Completion of an accredited Ophthalmology Residency Program. 
  • Fellowship training is welcomed and may be particularly valuable depending on the candidate's subspecialty interests. 
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Ophthalmology. 
  • Eligible for or currently holding an unrestricted Maryland medical license. 
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, Maryland CDS registration and DEA certificate. 
  • Strong medical and surgical ophthalmology skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. 
  • Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care. 
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
