RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a compassionate and mission-driven telehealth Addiction Medicine Physician to join our growing Addiction Medicine Division.

This physician will play a critical role in providing evidence-based addiction medicine care in an ambulatory telehealth setting for patients with substance use disorder, while helping expand innovative addiction treatment services across one of New Jersey’s leading healthcare systems.

About the Role

The Addiction Medicine Physician will provide expert virtual ambulatory consultation, assessment, and treatment recommendations for patients with substance use disorders. The physician will work closely with a multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure seamless coordination of care and long-term recovery support.

Position Highlights

  • Telemedicine-based consultative practice focused on patients with substance use disorders
  • Provide virtual evaluations, initial assessments, treatment recommendations, medication management, and follow-up care
  • Initiate and manage medications for substance use disorders, including patient education on recovery, harm reduction, and relapse prevention
  • Monitor adherence, treatment response, and safety; order and review labs and toxicology screening when indicated
  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, nurses, social workers, peer recovery specialists, behavioral health teams, patient navigators, recovery coordinators, and outpatient treatment providers
  • Maintain timely Epic documentation and comply with state and federal telehealth and substance use treatment guidelines
  • Help shape a rapidly expanding addiction medicine program through quality improvement, program development, education, and mentorship
  • Foster patient-centered, stigma-free addiction medicine treatment and recovery

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in a primary specialty, including Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or another applicable specialty
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Addiction Medicine
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of New Jersey
  • Strong commitment to evidence-based addiction treatment and recovery services
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Passion for improving outcomes for patients affected by substance use disorders

The anticipated salary range for this position if hired to work is $310,000 to $325,000 per year.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience.
