Full-time position available for Emergency Medicine or Family Medicine physician to provide coverage in 17-bed critical access hospital, located in La Jara, Colorado.  Enjoy manageable patient volumes and access to skiing, snowboarding, fly fishing and hiking in the heart of the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan mountain ranges.

Position Profile

Requirements: Board certified/Board eligible Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine, comfortable running trauma solo, stabilizing and transferring patients.  Desire to work in a small hospital in a rural area

Patient population: all ages; no OB or surgery

Expected patient volume: 9-10 patients per day

Procedures performed: full spectrum - intubations, chest tubes, lumbar punctures, splint factures, reductions, wound sutures and IO lines  

Transfer process: referral source to upstream partner; fixed wing aircraft available for transfers

For those patients in need of transfer to a higher level of specialty care, San Luis Valley Health has a relationship with Eagle Air Med, who maintains qualified medical staff locally and a fixed wing aircraft that resides at the Alamosa Airport for expedited air transport.  San Luis Valley Health is an affiliate of Centura Health, which helps us increase patient access to a network of readily available resources and specialty services.

Available upon completion of 1 year of fulltime service

401(a) retirement account will be established on the employee's behalf. The facility will contribute 3% of the employee’s gross annual pay, not to exceed IRS limits. Vesting Schedule applies. In addition to the 401a contribution, employees participating in the 403(b) Voluntary Pre-Tax Retirement Plan will be eligible for a 2% match after meeting eligibility requirements.
