LOCATION: Hartford Hospital, Hartford Connecticut 06103 
SHIFT: Full Time - 40 hours. Rotating schedule includes day, weekend, and evening/night shifts

Department of Surgery:

Hartford Hospital’s Department of Surgery delivers the highest attainable quality of surgical care throughout various departments, divisions, and sections including: Bariatric Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Critical Care, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Podiatric Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Transplant Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Trauma.

The education of medical students and the training of surgery residents as future general and sub-specialty surgical practitioners is an integral part of the Department’s mission. The education of medical students, surgical residents, attending physician staff, advanced practitioners and nurses is augmented by the utilization of the Hartford Hospital Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), which provides cutting edge technology and simulation education. Hartford Hospital participates in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS/NSQIP) and the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP). 

Advanced Practitioner Job Summary:

Advanced Practitioners should have a demonstrated ability of positive interactions with the medical/nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team, including surgical residents.  The candidate should possess the ability to assimilate and effectively participate as a team member in an integrated surgical residency program. Ability to provide quality, holistic and cost-effective advanced practice care for patients, families, and others in the general surgical population and to participate in the surgical and medical management of patients to achieve and/or maintain optimal health status, manage disease and reduce risk of illness. Duties will include, patient management and crisis intervention on the units including, but not limited to, general surgery, as well as discharge planning, and in-patient and ED consults. Assistance in the operating room and ICU will be required occasionally.

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or APRN Program.  Current Connecticut Physician Assistant/APRN license.  Board Certified or Eligible (If eligible-certification must be accomplished within 3 years of hire). Bachelor's Degree required Master's preferred for PA position; Master's required for APRN position. Nurse Practitioner’s must be eligible for 1st assist responsibilities.
