Diamond Healthcare is seeking an attending psychiatrist for the Pavilion, a 64 - bed hospital in the beautiful southwestern part of West Virginia with a service area of 275,000.   This area is within a short drive to Virginia Tech (football tailgating!)  Roanoke VA, Charlotte NC and Charleston WV.  The location is also a mecca for outdoor sports enthusiasts offering hiking, white water rafting of different classes from the beginner to the daredevil, skiing and more.

What kind of practice is this?

This is a traditional salaried practice with clinic hours, inpatient consults and some ED coverage with the inpatient/outpatient practice being approximately 50-50.   We also offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).  You will be working with two other psychiatrists, two PMHNPs, and a PMHNA.  This position includes one weekend on-call each month and one weeknight on-call.  Additional on-call days are covered per diem.

What reimbursements do you offer?

Before you even begin, you will receive a healthy relocation package and a generous sign-on bonus.   In addition to a competitive salary, you will have a bonus incentive option that is volume based on productivity.

What do we need from you? 

  1. We need a psychiatrist specializing in adults. We would consider a psychiatrist with an addiction fellowship or interested in addiction treatment.
  2. We would also consider a psychiatrist that is interested in operating a Partial hospitalization Program.
  3. You will need to be BC/BE. If you’re BE, we prefer less than five years out of residency.
  4. We can consider J1 and are approved for H1B.

Where exactly is this place?

The Behavioral Health Pavilion of the Virginias is located in Bluefield, West Virginia.  Blessed with beautiful surroundings in the southern part of the state, this area offers a special quality of life for families and is an ideal location for business and industry.  Mercer County lies in the ridge and valley region of the extreme southern section of West Virginia, approximately 100 miles from the State Capitol – Charleston, WV.  Two major cities in the county are Bluefield and Princeton, the County Seat.  Charlotte NC is 2 ½ hours south on I-77; Roanoke is 89 miles to the east and Virginia Tech is 40 miles east in the vibrant Blacksburg/Christiansburg area.  The area is a Mecca for outdoor sports which include hiking, camping, white water rafting, fishing, snow skiing etc.  A 900-seat performing arts center opened in Princeton eight years ago.

Princeton is known as the Gateway to the Four Seasons Country in the Mid-Atlantic States region. It consists of the southeastern WV and southwestern VA where a large number of hotels, restaurants, shopping areas, and recreational attractions have developed. It is a part of the Bluefield, WV-VA metropolitan area and currently has a population of approximately 110,000. The city is also home for the Princeton Rays baseball team of the Appalachian League. They are presently affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays. Princeton’s population is approximately 8,000.

Adult Inpatient Program

Our 34-bed unit offers a secure healing environment for adults age 18 and older who face psychiatric or emotional difficulties requiring hospitalization.

Geriatric Inpatient Program

Our 30-bed unit is customized for adults age 55 and older who experience mental or emotional health difficulties. 

Traditional Outpatient Program

This program offers traditional outpatient psychiatric medication management and individual and/or family counseling services.

Partial Hospitalization Program

Designed to provide supportive group counseling for adults age 18 and older transitioning from an inpatient stay or to address a need that may prevent an inpatient stay, this program operates five days a week. Patients attend group sessions four hours per day, five days per week, and receive psychiatric services weekly. Transportation may be provided.

Structured Outpatient Program

Offering supportive group counseling for adults 18 and older transitioning from an inpatient stay or to address a need that may prevent an inpatient stay, this program operates three days per week. Patients attend group sessions three hours per day, two to three days each week, and receive psychiatric services monthly. Transportation may be provided.

Professional Team

Board-certified psychiatrists and a professionally trained team of behavioral health professionals provide and deliver quality behavioral health services. Our staff includes: psychiatrists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, licensed social workers, mental health technicians and an activities coordinator.


Each patient will receive his or her own treatment plan that creates a path to recovery and includes a discharge plan focused on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Group and individual therapy are components of the treatment plan that promotes patient participation for a variety of needs including medication management, coping skills, depression, grief, loss, anxiety, anger or life changes. We are excited to offer patients a continuum of both inpatient and outpatient care and ease of access to treatment services from admission through discharge.
