Academic Faculty Physician – Internal Medicine or Family Medicine | Outpatient Role

Mercy Health is seeking a dedicated, experienced physician to join our academic faculty team in Toledo. We are actively recruiting an Internal Medicine physician and are also open to an experienced Family Medicine physician for an outpatient-focused role.

This opportunity is best suited for a physician with significant clinical experience who is passionate about teaching and mentoring. The role offers a rewarding blend of clinical education and patient care, with approximately 80% resident precepting and 20% direct patient care. There is no call requirement at this time.

What You’ll Do

Clinical Education & Precepting (80%)

  • Mentor and supervise residents in the outpatient clinic, providing guidance during patient encounters
  • Deliver high-quality, real-time teaching and conduct thoughtful resident evaluations
  • Serve as core faculty through lectures, mentoring, and medical student engagement
  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum development and program enhancement

Patient Care (20%)

  • Manage a small outpatient private patient panel
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining timely and accurate documentation
  • Support achievement of key clinical quality metrics

Administrative & Faculty Responsibilities

  • Participate in faculty meetings and provider operational councils
  • Engage in ongoing faculty development
  • Support recruitment efforts and contribute to clinical policy development
  • Participate in residency committees, lectures, and program initiatives
  • Provide occasional backup call (residents cover primary call responsibilities)

What We’re Looking For

  • Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Significant outpatient clinical experience (required)
  • Prior academic or residency training experience (preferred)
  • Strong teaching, mentoring, and clinical skills
  • Ability to balance educational leadership with patient care responsibilities

Practice Highlights

  • Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) available several days per week
  • Flexibility for virtual visits and eVisits at provider discretion
  • A dynamic mix of precepting, patient care, and didactic engagement

About the Program

This is a three-year, ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency program with continued accreditation, currently accepting 12 residents per year. Established in 2006, the program offers comprehensive training in both ambulatory and inpatient general Internal Medicine, along with subspecialties.

Graduates are well prepared for academic medicine, community practice, or fellowship training. Faculty are actively involved in research across areas such as infectious disease, respiratory disease, and sleep medicine.
