Seeking A Talented Staff Physicians to Join the Section of Dermatology in Beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico
The New Mexico VA Health Care System and the Department of Dermatology, the University of New Mexico (UNM) in Albuquerque, NM are actively recruiting a Board Certified Staff Physician in Dermatology (BE considered) to help care for our Veterans – American’s Heroes. Selected candidate must be eligible for a faculty appointment at UNM and be involved with teaching of Dermatology residents in our accredited residency program along with medical students, medicine residents & other providers. The New Mexico VA Healthcare System (NMVAHCS), located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is part of VA Desert Pacific Network (VISN22), comprised of eight health care system and 65 community clinics serving 1.5 million veterans in Arizona, New Mexico and Southern California which includes facilities in California, Nevada, and Hawaii.
Selected candidate will report to the Chief, Section of Dermatology and will supervise mid-level providers who are assigned to the Section. Duties will include day-to-day care of Veteran patients, both in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Primary duties include assessing, consulting, and treating patients with dermatological diseases who present at the facility. The physician must have expertise and experience with dermatological procedures. Some common dermatologic procedures used to test for diseases are: biopsies, including punch, shave, and excision biopsy; microbiological culture (often called a skin culture); skin allergy patch testing, and Wood's lamp examination. Other dermatologic procedures are used to remove or treat benign or cancerous skin lesions. Cryotherapy, curettage, cyst excision, electrodesiccation, phototherapy, and skin tag removal. The physician will participate in electronic consultations (e-consult) to improve access to dermatology care as well as increase use of Specialty Care Access Network-Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (SCAN-ECHO) to foster education & improve care. The physician will work collaboratively with primary care, surgery and other medical specialties. Participation in scholarly and educational activities as a faculty member will be strongly supported.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, (May be required to work evenings or weekends as a 24/7 Full-Time Physician).
- Must be U.S. Citizen – Non-US Citizens may be considered
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Board Certification in Gastroenterology preferred, but Board Eligibility may also be considered. Board certification in Internal Medicine is also preferred.

Annually, over 44,000 veterans are served and 33,000 hospital days and 500,000 outpatient visits are provided.
