About this Opportunity

The Division of General Academic Pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Kansas City (CMKC) is seeking a general pediatrician to join its faculty.  This position is predominantly oriented toward outpatient clinical service at the Pediatric Care Clinic at Children’s Mercy Clinics on Broadway (PCC).  The PCC is a patient-centered medical home for approximately 40,000 children and adolescents, primarily serving medically and socially complex children and families from the urban core of Kansas City.  Outpatient clinical duties include well child/EPSDT visits, same day illness visits, and management of chronic medical conditions common to the general pediatric setting.  A routine weekly schedule typically consists of eight (8) half-day clinics, with two half-days for educational and administrative activities.  As capacity changes within primary care, evening/weekend responsibilities may be present. Outpatient phone call responsibilities approximately 3 weeks/academic year. Our faculty play a key role in the clinical teaching of students, residents and physician assistant students on outpatient and inpatient services.   Faculty are also encouraged to explore further career development in areas of personal interest, including quality improvement, research, and advocacy.  Successful candidates will possess strong clinical and interpersonal skills, be board-certified in general pediatrics, and qualify for the rank of assistant or associate professor.  Fluency in Spanish is desirable but not required.

CMKC, the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine (UMKC), and the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) have created an integrated Division of General Academic Pediatrics, aligning population health, educational opportunities, and quality improvement/research programs across the Kansas City metro region.  Our combined faculty of more than 60 pediatricians, along with over 25 mid-level providers, serves over 130,000 outpatient visits each year, with a unique combination of clinic settings including urban, suburban, and co-located in childcare facilities. All our primary care clinics have achieved NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home certification.

The Division is the clinical home for specialized programs including our Title X program within Teen Primary Care; Weight Management Program (in conjunction with the Center for Children’s Healthy Lifestyles & Nutrition); the Beacon Program (for children with medical complexity), ADHD Clinic, and Down Syndrome Clinic. These programs provide additional opportunities for novel research and quality improvement projects.

The successful applicant must share our unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, collegiality, antiracism, and respect for inclusion of individuals with diverse backgrounds.
