Cardiothoracic Surgery Surgical Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner

Catholic Health Initiatives – Franciscan is seeking a highly motivated, self-starting, experienced surgical Advance Practice Provider (PA or NP) to join our 5 surgeon, 5 PA 1 NP practice in Tacoma, WA.

The PA/NP will be joining a very PA/NP friendly environment currently consisting of 3 Cardiac Surgeons, 2 Thoracic Surgeons, 5 Pas and 1 Nurse Practitioner. Our 3 Cardiac Surgeons perform approximately 500 open heart cases per year, including coronary bypass, complex valve surgeries to include minimally invasive aortic, mitral and tricuspid, major vascular procedures including surgical and TEVAR. Our 2 Thoracic Surgeons perform approximately 750 thoracic and foregut procedures per year. 50% or more of these procedures are performed robotically. This opportunity involves pre-operative management, operating room assisting, ICU and step down responsibilities as well as rotating night and weekend call. (Every 6th)

The PA/NP provider will manage pre-operative and post-operative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients, assist in the operating room, dictate discharge summaries, and occasionally see clinic patients. Experience with endoscopic vein harvest, radial harvest, first assist and VATS and robotic experience or exposure a plus. Electronic medical record is used. (Epic) The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited PA/NP program, with current certification and board eligible for Washington state licensure. 

CHI-Franciscan Heart Center is one of the Pacific Northwest’s highest volume cardiovascular care center and the only program in the Northwest and one of only 33 programs in the nation to receive a 3 Star Rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons in both coronary bypass and aortic valve replacement surgeries.
