The Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV seeks a board certified or board eligible Oncologist/Hematologist to care for Veterans. The medical center is a 50-bed facility and has an academic affiliation with the Marshall University School of Medicine.
The ideal candidate will provide coverage of the outpatient clinics, inpatient rounds, supervision of inpatient as well as an outpatient chemotherapy and infusion procedures; conduct bone marrow aspirates and biopsies and answer inpatient/outpatient consultations.
Typical day consist of an average of 10 patients with 60 minutes appoint blocks per veteran. Provide clinical guidance to patients, families and other health care providers over the phone, secure messaging or through the mail to coordinate health care, educate and give professional advice. You will have the opportunity to supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows from the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Marshall University. The tour of duty is from 8:00 am -4:30 pm, Monday-Friday; very low call (once a year) in a very friendly section. The department has lots of support staff, nurses, mid-level practitioners - such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
