Provides leadership and oversight, including direct patient care to veterans receiving radiation oncology services. Incumbent would be involved in clinical supervision of radiation therapists, medical physicist, dosimetrist, and nursing staff and Pas, as well as, administrative Radiation Oncology staff. The physician will be responsible for providing the management and oversight for administrative activities, including radiation safety issues, equipment selection, and physician / patient scheduling.
The incumbent reports to the Chief of Staff and serves as a key clinical resource for the Chief of Staff and the Medical Center Director.
The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology and the associated radiation safety factors included therein. The incumbent must be trained in radiation safety and radiation physics. Incumbent must have knowledge of standards and performance factors in Radiation Oncology, and will need to have requisite knowledge all current treatment modalities
FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities include hands on clinical work, oversight, and administration of all aspects of the service, including research, and guidance and training for residents and other trainees.
Additionally, the incumbent is directly accountable to the Chief of Staff for administrative activities, clinical program activities, and overall compliance to VA, VHA, and VISN wide policies and procedures related to this service.
