Dermatologist wanted! Roll the Dice and Take a Chance!

This is a full-time on-site role for a Dermatologist located in North Las Vegas, NV. The Dermatologist will be responsible for diagnosing and treating a variety of skin conditions, including acne, eczema, and skin cancer. The Dermatologist will provide comprehensive care to veterans, address patient concerns, and oversee skincare plans and treatments. Additionally, the Dermatologist will collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care and satisfactory outcomes. Adequate time is provided to be able to evaluate and manage each patient in conforming with Abraham Lincoln's commitment to veterans "To care for him who shall have borne the battle".

 

The VA provides opportunity for teaching residents, rheumatology fellows, medical students, and PA students. The VA has an active research department through which one can perform industry initiated as well as investigator-initiated research; opportunities for mentoring residents, fellows and students in these projects are available.

 

This a salaried position with a built-in bonus structure wherein the emphasis is on quality of care not number of patients seen per day. In addition to paid time off for federal holidays, there is more than adequate paid vacation, CME, and sick leave.

Work Schedule: Full time,, 40 hours weekly, 5 days per week, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Not eligible for tele-work, in-person only).

Academic Affiliations: University of Nevada Las Vegas, School of Medicine.   Serve as a mentor to  UNLV  family practice and internal medicine residents, rheumatology fellows,  medical students; as well as the PA student s from the t Nellis AirForce base program.   The mentorship  includes offering practical instruction and oversight during clinical procedures and evaluations as well as investigator initiated research projects.

Practice Environment Description: This distinctive role encompasses a blend of clinical practice, procedural expertise, and academic responsibilities within a collaborative and supportive environment. The position provides an exceptional opportunity to engage in a stimulating academic atmosphere while managing a full-time clinical schedule. You will work alongside colleagues to deliver comprehensive dermatologic care, participate in teaching and mentoring, and support the academic objectives of the department. Opportunities to participate in industry-initiated clinical trials, as well as investigator-initiated research. Our dermatology department comprises a dedicated team that includes one full-time physician , and one part-time staff physicians.   

Key Responsibilities: Conduct thorough assessments for acute dermatological conditions, ensuring prompt and appropriate interventions. Administer the admission process for patients presenting with severe or acute dermatological disorders. Provide continuous management of chronic dermatological diseases, including psoriasis, eczema, and skin malignancies. Perform and supervise   surgical and laser (when available) procedures.   Several Chemotechnique™ patch test sets are available for  in-depth assessment of contact and systemic contact dermatitis   Xtrac, Lumenis Stellar M2 and UltraPulse Alpha lasers have been ordered.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • M.D. or D.O. (Schools of Medicine Accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association). Foreign medical graduates must be verified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
  • Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completed Residency Training. (New Grads are welcomed!)

Total Rewards Benefits Package:

Competitive Starting Annual Salary: The final total amount will be adjusted to reflect a 1.0  Full-Time Equivalency. Additionally, employees may be eligible to receive up to $15,000 in performance-based pay annually. Performance pay will be calculated based on the full-time equivalent salary, rather than being prorated according to the standard work schedule or actual earnings.

Education Debt Reduction Program: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Paid Time Off: 1 hour of annual leave for each 10 hours in a pay status with a max carryover of 240 hours. 1 hour of sick leave for each 20 hours in a pay status (no limit) and 11 paid federal holidays accrue right away.

Liability Protection: VA providers are protected by the federal government in instances of alleged malpractice or negligence resulting from the performance of their duties in or for the Veterans Health Administration, at no cost. VA providers receive tail protection for the time they practice in VA.

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2025, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $23,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $31,000.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
